... for doing a staggaring 36 km/h in a 30 km/h zone downhill. All that because I want to reduce wear on the breaks. Ugh.

It’s weird, really. The last speeding ticket I got in my own country was in 2012. Yet in Germany I’ve had several since. Twice 119 in a 100, a 44 in a 30 and I believe another one where I did something over the 70 I was allowed to go. And yes, I received all of those tickets at home, despite my yellow license plates.

Open borders I guess. There are only a few countries in the EU where you can evade the ticket.

36 in a 30? Jeeze, that’s a strict cop!

Wasn’t even a cop lol. It was some municipal mobile radar control. I just got the ticket in my mail ans had to laugh hard. My town seems to desperately want to earn some money.

They gave you a robo-ticket for 6 kmh over!!!! Dayum! That’s like, less than 4 miles per hour over. My state has radar vans in construction zones, but they’re set to only go off when you hit 14 mph over the limit.

It’s just so pathetic but in a silly way, I just laughed hard when I saw the letter all looking serious and official and then I was only 4 miles over the limit.

But really you’re still the one to blame for not downshifting again once it started creeping over.... Unless you drive an auto, in which case, SUE THE CAR MAKERS!!!!

Thats like less than 4 mph over the speedlimit!! Shit, in my area you will get run off the road doing less than 10 mph (16 km) over and you can EASILY get away with 15-20 mph (25-30 km) over on most roads, most of the time. In Europe, I have only driven around in Italy. They definitely don’t seem to enforce the speed limit nearly as much. I was getting blown off the road most of the time.

It’s just a money making machine for the city/county, a really pathetic one, downhill. Assholes. 5 over is the norm here.

I guess that kinda makes more sense. Human cops have to make decisions about whether one’s speeding is egregious enough to perform a traffic stop, when their time might be better spent nabbing really bad drivers. But if it’s an automated system, then there’s no need to single out just the worst offenders.
It would certainly keep me on my toes.

Lame!

Yeah, my only speeding tix was because I was going uphill in a little Civic hatch and didn’t want to downshift, so I gathered speed instead. Luck of the draw.

them’s the brakes.

It was actually an employee of the city doing the radar control, real cops wouldn’t have stopped me lol. They seem desperate to earn money.

I know, it’s rather funny. I did way worse things while driving but I only get the consequences for the lamest offense.

Radar controls on both uphill and downhill are backstabbing bullshit.
![]() 09/14/2016 at 10:31 |

Huh. I’ve never encountered anything like that. So it was still manual, like a guy holding a radar gun and typing into a computer or something?

I prefer downshifting when possible.

The fine is only €15 so I don’t really care too much.
![]() 09/14/2016 at 11:30 |

Yeah, that’s not too bad. No points on your license, I hope?
![]() 09/14/2016 at 11:32 |

These things are totally ridiculous. Is it a big fine? You can go to court and probably knock down the amount you owe a significant amount. I once got a red-light camera ticket for not coming to a complete stop before making my right turn (lesson learned). $300... but I show up and without really saying anything the Justice of the Peace says “k, $90 sound good?”.
![]() 09/14/2016 at 11:35 |

Thank god I didn’t get points or else I would have to hand in my license because I was in my 2 year probation period at that point (three days before that period was over actually lol). If you’re 21 km/h over the limit and get caught you’d get points.
![]() 09/14/2016 at 11:40 |

It’s just €15 so no big deal here. It’s rather funny but yeah, at the end of the day it was my fault.
